Embracing the season of change
As the seasons turn, grievers may find themselves surprised by unexpected emotions. The changing scenery sometimes reminds our subconscious that life has already changed so much and this change in nature can feel unnerving.
Change is difficult when you already feel unmoored, but that doesn’t mean we can’t find hope in the change, too.
Take some time to find beauty and enjoy it, remembering that the warm months will come again. Find some fall and winter rituals to care for yourself. A cup of tea. A good book. A walk in the woods. A bowl of soup with a friend. The colder months remind us that, just as nature needs to rest in order to bloom in the spring, we need to rest, too.
As we set intentions for this season where the landscape changes, let’s keep in mind this quote from Henry David Thoreau: “Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influence of the earth.” Autumn reminds us it’s okay to slow down and rest; we weren’t meant to bloom all the time.
